Foothills FC Home Opening Double Header Weekend

Calgary, AB – After an exciting and successful pre-season, Foothills FC will kick off their PDL season with a double header this upcoming weekend at their new home field in Okotoks. The first game kicks off Friday, May 11th at 7:30pm, with the second getting underway Sunday, May 13th at 2:00pm, both against Canadian rivals Victoria Highlanders FC.

Foothills FC is looking forward to moving to Okotoks and setting up a permanent home in a great sporting town.  The games will not only be packed with great soccer action, but there will be events that the whole family can enjoy including: live bands, food trucks, beer gardens, kids zone, free giveaways, and more. In order to make this weekend extra special the first 150 fans at Fridays match will receive free green and white thunder stick and on Sunday, all mothers will receive a special Mother’s Day gift.

The team is very excited for the start of the 2018 PDL season. Since joining the league in 2015, Foothills FC has improved on its points totals from the one before:

2015: 16pts (3W 7T 2L)

2016: 28pts (8W 4T 2L) - Play-off run to the Championship Final.

2017: 29pts (9W 2T 3L) - Knocked out in 1st Play off round.

“We intend to continue that path of progression as we establish ourselves as a perennial contender in the PDL that has 74 teams across North America.” Says Coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr, “Our NW Division is one of the strongest conferences with MLS U23 sides Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders, along with our two Canadian rivals Victoria Highlanders and the TSS Rovers of Vancouver.”

In order to continue with the trend of progressive success in the division, Foothills FC has added some exciting new players to the mix.  Goalkeeper Marco Carducci and Midfielder Nik Ledgerwood are returning home to their native Alberta after successful professional stints abroad.  Dangerous attacking player Moses Danto has been added up front to provide an additional goal scoring threat to an already potent attack from returning players such as Ali Musse.  There is also excitement around the team with the return of three important players, Elijah Adekugbe, Dominick Zator and Jonathan Wheeldon from the 2016 run back to the team after stints away.

Our Canadian rivals the Victoria Highlanders placed fourth in the division last year, but have since made some significant changes to both the roster and coaching staff, including new head coach Thomas Niendorf. Niendorf is a former Calgary coach with the Chinooks program and previous Whitecaps residency program coach. They have also brought in new players including Thomas Shores who recently won Rookie of the Year at a NCAA division 1 school, as well as signed returning superstar Cam Hundal. Foothills FC are ready for the challenge and it is sure to be an exciting and competitive game.

Be sure to check out the new team in its new home this weekend and don’t miss a minute of the action.  Tickets for this weekend’s games are available at the gate and online at www.foothillsfc.ca. Tickets are $15 Adult, $5 Youth.
