Foothills FC is back in Sole Possession of First Place and Ready for a Crucial 3 Game Road Trip

Foothills FC go on their longest and potentially the most important road trip of 2018 this week, trying to extend their lead in the PDL’s Northwest Division.

Coming off a scoreless but productive draw against Lane United this past Saturday, coach Tommy Wheeldon and his charges will compete in Seattle on Wednesday, Vancouver on Friday, and Sunday afternoon in Victoria. The coach said his team is coming off a very good effort despite no goals for.  “I’m happy with how the boys played. I’m pleased, they did what was asked. I can’t complain about their effort. We are not losing at home and that’s important.”

Up first on their road trip is a tricky matchup vs the Seattle Sounders U23 side that has snuck its way back into third place in the division on the heels of an impressive 3-1 win over the previously top of the table TSS FC Rovers.  They have worked their way from a tough start to the season and have been led by the Northwest Division’s leading scorer Santiago Patino.  Foothills will be looking to keep him off the scoresheet with a weapon of their own.  Foothills FC keeper Marco Carducci leads the NW Division in goals against, only allowing 3 goals in his 5 starts this season.

Foothills will be looking for revenge on Friday night back at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver as they look to avenge their only defeat of the season against the TSS FC Rovers and the team who is currently sitting 1 point back of first place in the Northwest Division.

“We are going to go into this stretch with an edge,” Wheeldon said. ”Teams aren’t going to sit back against us when they are at home. To finish first they will have to catch us cold twice and that is not going to happen a second time.”

The last matchup of the trip is a Sunday afternoon matchup in Victoria vs the dangerous Highlanders squad.  The third match for the team in five days on the road is always going to be tricky as the players will undoubtedly be fighting fatigue.  Victoria currently sit bottom of the division, but played Foothills very tough in Okotoks in the two matches to open the season and they have posted two impressive home wins already this season against Seattle and Lane United.
