June 15 Road Match Report: Foothills FC vs TSS FC Rovers

Burnaby, British Columbia – In a PDL Northwest Division top of the table class featuring two Canadian sides, it was Calgary Foothills FC that came away with a well deserved 1–0 victory over the second place TSS FC Rovers on Friday night.

The victory is the second consecutive for the club on their current three game road trip and increases the gap between the two teams to 7 points at the top of the standings.

“This was an extremely valuable win tonight,” said Calgary Foothills FC Head Coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr after the match, “I’m proud of the boys because to come on the road in a top of the table clash and to respond against the only team that’s beat us this year is not easy and to keep a clean sheet in our second game in three days on this long tough road trip is impressive.”

Foothills FC dominated the first half and had a number of chances to get on the board, but each time the TSS FC Rovers backline held and kept the game knotted at zero.  It didn’t take long after the restart for the visitors to break the deadlock, with Nico Pasquotti finding the back of the net after making a great run down the right side and beating several Rovers defenders along the way.

“It was a great goal by Nico Pasquotti who has been lights out for us this year,” Wheeldon continued, “and it was also a resilient clean sheet from Marco Carducci and the boys in front of him.”

The Foothills FC back line was solid once again with their division leading fifth clean sheet in nine games so far this season.

“This was a big win from the lads tonight.” Foothills FC Captain & Centre Back Dominick Zator said after the win, “We knew we had an opportunity to avenge the defeat from last time we played them. I am very pleased with Nico scoring the winner and that we played some great passing combinations at key times in the match.  We defended Marco’s net well, especially near the end when they were pressing for the equalizer, to ensure we left with all 3 points”.

The team now finishes up their 3 game road trip in Victoria on Sunday afternoon (June 17) with a match against the Highlanders FC at 3pm MST.

“This win is valuable and gives us a bit of breathing room at the top,” added Wheeldon, “It also gives a confidence boost going to Sunday's match where we could have a look too increase the lead of the top the table even further.”

Calgary Foothills FC’s next home game is the rubber match against TSS FC Rovers in Okotoks Saturday, June 23 at 2pm.  There are only two home dates remaining for the NW Division leading Foothills FC.
