June 1-3 Weekend Wrap Up: Foothills FC on the Road

On its first road trip of the season, after enjoying its best ever start to a PDL season since entering the league in 2015, Foothills FC returned home with a split in two games over the weekend and still atop the standings in the Northwest Division.

Two goals from Daniel Sagno secured the victory as the TSS FC Rovers handed Foothills FC its first loss of their PDL campaign on Friday night in Vancouver.  It was the first time in this season that the Calgary based team had trailed in a match all season, surrendering only a draw with the Portland Timbers U23 to go along with three victories in the first four games of the season.

The usually stingy defensive Foothills team gave up goals to Sagno in the 24th and 68th minute to hand the hosts a two goal advantage despite controlling the ball and having several excellent goal scoring chances early on.  Moses Danto scored his fourth of the year on a beautifully taken free kick late in extra time to put Foothills FC on the board and ruin the Rovers clean sheet however it wasn't enough as the Rovers held on for the victory. With that goal, Danto is currently only one goal back of the leaders in goals in the Premier Development League.

Two days later in Seattle, the team rebounded with a complete performance against the Seattle Sounders U23 squad resulting in a 2 - 0 victory in a tighter and defensively shored up match.   Calgary's first goal actually came before Foothills FC even had a shot on net.  in the 24th minute, Nico Pasquotti launched a throw in towards goal from 30 yards out that didn't actually touch any of the Calgary players, but as Seattle defender Nathan Aune tried to head the ball out of the way he miss-timed his effort and deflected the ball into his own net.

The game was a very conservative and defensive match on an overcast and rainy Sunday with Seattle only managing three attempts on the goal to Foothills FC 5.  In the Foothills goal was Nathan Ingham, making his second start of the season, who was able to keep the Sounders off the scoresheet to register his first clean sheet of the season and the teams 3rd in 6 games.  The game was put away in the 52nd minute when Sergio Camargo stole a pass 30 yards away from goal, streaked past a defender into position and found the far post behind Sounders keeper Ben Willis. It was Camargo's first goal of 2018 and completed the scoring for the day. The victory keeps Foothills FC atop the Northwest Division standings with 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw in 6 matches.

Calgary Foothills FC's next match is back at home in Okotoks against 3rd place Lane United FC Saturday, June 9 at 7:30pm.
