June 3 Match Report: Foothills WFC vs Colorado Pride

Written By Cat Gusztak

Colorado Springs, CO – The Calgary Foothills WFC are celebrating a 3 – 0 win against the Colorado Pride on Sunday afternoon. This earns them their third straight victory of the season and places them at the top of the Western Conference Table.

The team was able to capitalize on important moments of the game and create a lot of attacking opportunities against the hosts. The first goal of the night was scored by Alex Lamontagne in the 35th minute – after Rehana Murani assisted by delivering the ball with a quick and skillful flick, Lamontagne wasted no time putting it in the net.

Throughout the game the Foothills back line remained solid, nullifying the attacking threats made by Colorado. But this doesn’t mean head coach Troye Flannery doesn’t see the Pride as a risk. “They are a dangerous team moving forward and I’m pleased with how we dealt with their athleticism in that regard.” He hopes their re-match this Friday, June 8th will have similar results.

The team’s midfielders were consistent in regaining and maintaining possession throughout the game and this resulted in two assists from stand-out player Jessie Jones. Both were perfect through balls by Jones, first to Christabel Oduru who turned it inside to put it past the keeper in the 82nd minute and then to Camilla Shymka in the 86th minute who took a powerful shot and placed it in the corner. This performance echoes her assists in previous games, proving her vision on the ball and creating perfect set ups for her teammates. Steph Labbé also made some key saves throughout the game and maintained her second clean sheet of the season.

“This was a good professional performance and an important three points gained away from home.” Head Coach Troye Flannery stated. “Another clean sheet, a bold midfield performance and a couple good goals from our game changers.”

The Foothills WFC game will be hosting a re-match against the Colorado pride Friday, June 8th at 6:30 p.m. at the Calgary Soccer Centre.  Single game and season tickets are available at www.foothillsfc.ca/ticket
